I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our Keynote and Workshop presenters, Dr. Amanda Vanderheyden and Dr. Robin Codding, the breakout session presenters and panel participants, and each member who attended, networked, and enriched our professional community at the Fall Conference. The conference theme of Mathletes: Empowering Minds, Multiplying Impact, was truly at work throughout the two days. I also want to thank our NASP Conference Chair, Lenae Kaus, and Executive Manager, Melissa Sullivan, for their hard work and dedication to the board, which was instrumental in making the convention a success. This year's fall conference was particularly special, as it marked the 65th anniversary of the Kansas Association of School Psychologists, a milestone that underscores our organization's enduring commitment to the field of school psychology. As we move forward, I encourage all members to mark their calendars for January 23rd, 2026, to listen to Brian Dempsey present the Law Year in Review, which is offered to you free of cost as a member perk. Additionally, be on the lookout for more information regarding our Spring Virtual Workshop in April. It is essential for our community to stay engaged and informed about the latest developments in our field. I encourage all members to participate in Virtual Capitol Hill Day by reaching out to your legislators. We have made it easy to make an impact by providing you with an email template. Now more than ever, it is crucial to participate in advocacy efforts, and I appreciate your active role in shaping the future of our profession. Your involvement is vital, and I am grateful for your commitment to our community. |
Board Minute Summary by Madison Rziha, Secretary Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 6:00 am - 9:00 pm – Fall Board Retreat The KASP Executive Board convened on Wednesday, October 15 for the Fall Board Meeting. The meeting was called to order at 6:28pm. The board discussed discrepancies that existed between the KASP Board standing rules, constitution, and role descriptions. Board members agreed to the advantages of the rules and roles as outlined in the constitution. Board members will updated role descriptions to match this practice and ensure all practices are detailed within the description to provide clarity for future board members. Following this, the board discussed the proposal of a Public Policy and Advocacy (PPAC) Committee. The committee will be responsible for addressing legislative priorities and coordinating advocacy efforts related to professional practices and policies that support Kansas School Psychologists, children, and families, in conjunction with other stakeholders. This includes the Kansas state legislature, Kansas State Board of Education, Kansas Department of Education, various education associations, county, regional, community and business stakeholders, school districts, and schools. The board appreciated the detail and structure of the proposal. Next steps will include redefining roles of the “GPR” position, identifying a PPAC co-chair, and assign subcommittees to begin this committee. Dr. Stephanie Kneedler with WPS offered to provide a free virtual workshop for KASP members. The board reviewed the slide deck and were in favor of proving the training to members. More information will be coming soon. After this, the board members discussed final details and responsibilities for the 2025 Fall Convention. |
